Current driveway is tarmac with on one side some paving slab steps. The job is to pull all of that up and put block paving.
Area is 23sqm.
Had three prices as follows but need your advice if these are fair. £2,500, £2,600 and £2,900.
All three quoted to pull up the existing tarmac and paving slabs with a digger going down about 10 inches. Put in a sub base, membrane, screed sand then standard style paving blocks. They all said it is a 2 days job.
Just simple flat new paving, I dont want anything special like nice design or new steps..
In West Yorkshire area.
Do these quotes seem about right?

  • I put together my own estimate:
£300 for brindle paving stones from local building yard (£13 per sqm)
£600 for 2 people for 2 days labour (£150 each per day)
£350 for edging stones (perimeter of 19 meters, local builders yard £18 per meter)
    £60 sharp sand for 22mq B&Q
    £80 type 1 sub base from B&Q
Waste disposal £400 for waste disposal a 14 cubic yard skip
    TOTAL £1,390
Need to add waste disposal, machine rental, van depreciation, material delivery charges but i'd be surprised if thats all that cannot be £1,000+
Am I missing any other costs?

For 23m2 you'll need more than a bulk bag of sub base as well - possibly 5 tonne. Don't forget the profit margin for the builder etc.
