Not sure why the builder want's to fit a Box lintel in there.0

That looks like minor settlement cracking. If the lintel wasn't strong enough you'd know about it.
A window fitter wouldn't be qualified to tell you if the lintel is up to the job, you need an engineer for that.0 -
Have the cracks appeared recently or have they been there ever since you moved in? If they are historic, and aren't getting worse, it suggests they are nothing to worry about and just need repointing.

Difficult to be sure whether it's a lintel or bar/angle iron. I wouldn't worry too much, wait and hear what the SE has to say.0

Stay calm and wait on the structural engineer. Many houses have faults much greater than this which are relatvely easy to fix. Once you have a report get the normal three estimates and choose a builde to rectify.0
