Sunflower hearts (not seeds) and mealworms go fastest from my feeders.  Both available from amazon in bulk.
Yep, sunflower hearts here. We'll often have 20-odd goldfinches and greenfinches on or queueing at our feeders and we need to refill them daily! We go through about 25kg per month now.  :o

We also have regular pheasant visitors who hoover up the seed underneath the feeders that the little birds have dropped. But they've totally destroyed a patch of lawn.  :D

We'd been buying locally but I checked out Amazon for bulk-buy after the tip above. Then found this site which was a few quid cheaper so I'm giving them a go:

  • Huge problem with the London Mint office terrible service and threatening letters for payment. I purchased a coin on offer on their website £9.90p and without my knowledge purchasing this coin I agreed to a subscription and a payment for £32.90p appeared in my account! Then came the first letter requesting payment of 32.90p! I explained by email (wording help given by Martin’s template letters for complaining thankfully) that l had not agreed this subscription, refusing payment! Now l have requested closure of my account and no further coins to be sent! This subscription now cancelled but the £32.90p remains on my account! No email reply back to me about this! I am really worried about my credit score and further threatening letters requesting payment with additional costs for overdue payment! Last night I decided to pay the £32.90p to end any harassment and additional costs! All extremely worrying experience! Thankfully I googled this company reading this forum about this company! Thanks Moneysavingexpert!

I think you've posted on the wrong thread.
This thread is about wild bird food.

You might have meant to post on here:

I was seduced by all the mentions of Little Peckers, so ordered some Nyger seed and a feeder, half coconut shells and some sunflower hearts.

The box sounded 'odd' when it arrived, as if seed was sloshing around inside ... sure enough, the Nyger seed bag was WIDE open and quite a lot of it was loose in the box.

In the process of pouring it into a container, I knocked the container over, fortunately in the garden so there's now Nyger seed all over one of the flowerbeds.

No problem, I thought, I'll email them.

I'm slightly underwhelmed by their response: they asked how much product I thought I'd lost. I said about a quarter of the bag, so they're refunding me 25% of the price!

No sign of anything eating the stuff yet either, so that may be first and last exploration of their wares.

I've not used Little Peckers but after that response I'd certainly give them a wide berth.
Looking at their prices compared with Wilko, 2kg of sunflower hearts are within 5p.
Buying 25kg or 30kg is the same price.
I guess you save on delivery costs - free for Little Peckers, £5.00 for Wilko - although when I've placed an order with Wilko I tend to also stock up on laundry stuff.

We've had a thrush in our garden for the last 2 days. Yesterday, it allowed me within 3 feet of it and I tossed some suet pellets down and it stayed there to eat it all. I hope it's OK, it seemed a young one.

I've had proportional refunds before, you still have 75% usable product so I don't see that response as unfair.

Not unfair, no. Slightly grudging, perhaps?

DH has recently had similar experiences with his usual breakfast cereal. They've sent vouchers for twice the cost. And he hasn't had to deal with it sloshing around loose in a large box of other products. I'm sure I'll be finding it in odd places!

    I agree with Savvy_Sue.
A begrudging acknowledgement of poor packing or poor care by the carrier.

I ordered a pair of inexpensive silver earrings from China through eBay.
When they arrived, one of the stones (mystic topaz) was missing.
I messaged them, they asked for photos (which I sent).
They refunded my paypal account overnight.
I ordered another pair as I liked them, I'd have been happy if they'd sent me just one replacement earring.

I don't get it either, that response seems absolutely fine for me.  They've given the money back for what was lost.  They've even given the customer an opportunity to ask for more if they felt that was appropriate, and considering a lot of the loss was because the customer knocked a container over themselves, I think its pretty good actually.

Do we expect too much from these sellers?

Well, I've read lots of threads on Praise, Vent & Warnings board and Consumer Rights board and would agree with you that yes, some people do expect too much from sellers.
But I don't consider myself one of those people and I'm with Savvy_Sue on this.

I may have missed it but I can't see where Savvy_Sue says Little Peckers have given her an opportunity to ask for more if she felt that was appropriate.

I don't think the loss was Savvy_Sue's fault.
She was pouring it into a container because the bag was split.
If the bag wasn't split, she'd probably have filled her bird feeders from the bag (this is what I do) so there wouldn't have been any loss of seed if the order had arrived intact.
