Ebay QR codes for Collection Only items.

Accepting Paypal for collection only items. Has anyone used these QR codes to confirm delivery. I'd not heard of this before.

Proof of collection

For proof of collection, you can use the eBay app to scan the QR code or manually enter the 6 digit code the buyer received after completing their purchase.

To scan the code, go to the Arrange Pickup screen on the eBay app and tap the Scan to confirm pickup button. The item will immediately be marked as delivered. You’ll still need to mark the item as paid if you collect cash at the time of delivery.

If the buyer doesn’t have their email with the codes, a signed receipt/invoice or an eBay message from the buyer confirming they collected the item can protect you against item not received cases.

The discussion around this appears to suggest this is to do with managed payments. As it stands at the moment this would not satisfy a paypal claim for INR , but once ebay manage payments they can make their own rule sup as paypal is out of the equation. If eBay say (and we believe them!) that they will protect us against an INR then perhaps managed payments and collection will be fine. Those not on managed payments though still need to adhere to paypal requirements.

The other issue being discussed is that buyers will be able to buy using credit and debit cards direct with ebay under managed payments- if so it is unclear whether eBay will definitely protect us against a bank chargeback and I suspect that remains to be tested.

Then of course there is this bit in th elink:
    What you need to know

With local collection, you'll need to offer buyers at least one of the approved electronic payment methods, such as PayPal.

so there remains the question about paypal being used via managed payments and whether we are protected against a direct paypal claim. eBay and paypal are different companies so eBay cannot protect us against 3rd party claims, regardless of their own t and cs. This needs a lot of clarification.

  • I had a buyer use this yesterday for a very low value item. I used the ebay app to mark it as collected and it updated in the tracking to state "Buyer has picked up the item". Whilst I was happy to use if for a low value item (it was less than £5), I'm not so sure for higher value items. I'm not concerned about this item but I would be for a higher value bulky item if a buyer could then open a SNAD case or a return case saying an item is faulty.

As above, I think once sellers are all on managed payments this will work as ebay will be the only seller protection we need. Whilst paypal is in the mix, I agree, only useful for low value items that are worth the risk.

As far as I can see if the buyer opens a Paypal claim for a payment made through Managed Payments that dispute will be with eBay's Paypal account (putting it simplistically) so how that will translate through to the seller is unclear.

Managed Payments made with Paypal are not deposited into the sellers Paypal account so they can not react to the claim unless eBay translates it through to their own platform somehow.
