Each of these applications had a tailored cover letter and tweaked CV. About 1/3 of them required application forms completed. 1000 applications in approximately 6 months is not a lot in my opinion.100 applications a day, 16 hours a day. I can type 113 words per minute. All I have to do is quickly look at the job description, the 'About Us' page in the company's website and type a covering letter and tweak my CV. I had to do an application form at times, and I was applying for entry level office jobs, retail jobs, sales jobs, telemarketing jobs, cleaning jobs, all of which I'm qualified for. I was not spam applying jobs I'm not qualified for, and I had been doing this relentlessly, often going well over 16 hours in a day. I slept for approximately 4-5 each night, got up eating only a sandwhich and water and went straight to job hunting.
I don't care if you think I'm lying, that's what I did. I think you people are simply not putting in enough effort or you are not applying for jobs you think doesn't pay enough or too far away. For jobs too far away to commute, I simply put down the city name of the workplace in my CV and then later explain I'm willing to relocate for the job.My job hunting routine became an obsession to me, I was only thinking I'm bringing shame to my family (Asian culture. It worked, I got an office job and after a year I moved on.0 -
To anyone who says there are not enough jobs to apply for, try indeed.com, monster.co.uk, reed.co.uk, cv-library.co.uk, totaljobs.com, jobstoday.com, and jobsite.co.uk just to name a few. Look at the adverts posted within the last 24 hours and you'll see there are well over 100 entry level job vacancies to apply for. Can't seem to edit my above post, was going to add a bracket after typing Asian culture lol. I'm not making any of this up. We Asians when seeing others putting in the effort also want to compete and invest the same or more effort, I notice in some cultures the general attitude is you must be lying, it can't be done, and just blame your misfortune on other people or blame the economy instead of stepping up your effort.0

I don’t care what your cultural background is, you are either lying or have an incredibly unhealthy view about job seeking practices, neither of which should be used to give advice to someone.2

Who are you to accuse me of lying? Obviously your culture is to accuse people of lying when you have not put in enough effort. This is why you are unemployed, you make a habit of accusing people of lying instead of putting in more effort. If I got rejected for a job I don't accuse the employer of discriminating me, I don't throw a tantrum saying the applicant who got hired must have lied.

Well I did a quick bit of maths and I don't think anyone putting so many applications in such a short space of time could actually be doing as good a job as they might think they are doing.
I know the job market is tough, but even if it was possible to find, identify, assess, adjust and apply for a job every 6 minutes all day, I'd expect one be too bogged down doing interviews to really get anything done.
Which suggests we're not getting interviews, so are we just spamming people.
I know the market is tough but I do think the numbers are getting a bit silly. If you can really do 100 applications and not get a flicker of acknowledgement, you're doing something not right.
