Overpaid Credit Card

Hope someone can help
I had booked holidays through our credit card, and it was fully paid off.
Now because it was cancelled my balance is now minus (credit company owes me).
Credit company is insisting I purchase.
My question can they insist upon this, or can I get a refund from them.

They can, but it's unlikely they'll refuse to return it. After all, if you closed the account, they would send you the credit.0
