Morning!
So after finally getting an offer and accepting on our house after a lonnnnnng time on the market (shared ownership/h2b schemes, don't do it kids!), we now find ourselves going back to renting.
We're about 8 weeks down the line of accepting the offer and are expecting contracts to be signed next week.
So OH and I have been looking at places to rent and been coming up with some strange requests.
One agency wanted us to send bank statements, employer refs, payslips and guarantor details before they would let us view the property. Another one we have a viewing lined up with next week has emailed this morning to say because they have been inundated with queries over the property, we need to be prepared to pay full move in costs at the time and it will literally go to the first person who does this. Another one rang me to say the landlord would only accept 6 months upfront payments. Both OH and I work (energy and banking), glowing credit reports etc.
Is this standard practice now? It's been over 7 years since I rented but I never knew it was so competitive!

Shared ownership and H2B are totally seperate schemes... just saying.
It's not standard practice, but it sounds like the market is being flooded with tenants and LLs are able to set whatever conditions they see fit.0 -
I know they're separate, we've been in both for over 6 years through a scheme through our local housing association, hence the long story part.Comms69 said:Shared ownership and H2B are totally seperate schemes... just saying.

Oh well, suppose we'd be best be prepared for all those scenarios if we like the houses we're going to view!0
