Have a laptop that stopped powering up, an asus a53k
Light works on charger so believed that was OK, took laptop apart and saw charging port had broke at the back, quite common on this model.
Ordered and fitted a new charging port, my soldering skills are questionable however it does look ok.
Now when i plug my charger in to the wall the light comes on however when i put the jack into the laptop the power light on the charger goes out.
Im guessing this is some connection issue with the charging port but not sure why?

Sounds like you have somehow shorted the output from the charger. They are designed to shut down when shorted out. You could confirm it with a paper clip if you are brave!1

I agree it sounds like a re-soldering problem."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"1
