I think I am going to go with LV, I want a reputable insurer in case of genuine disasters, emergencies etc.

LV's general insurance arm has recently been bought by Allianz (along with Legal & General's general insurance business).

Does that mean its no good anymore? Sorry, I am not sure what the implications are.

It means that if you are relying on past LV experience or through other parts of LV's business that they have retained, then it may not be a good guide to future standards.

Ok, yeah I get that. Sorry, I should have specifically asked whether Allianz is good.

It means it is possible that they will change now that they have new owners however in reality these things normally take a bit of time even if the strategy is to harmonise... sometimes when buying a competitor though you don't want to change them too much from a customer perspective as you are buying their appeal to a certain market segment that your own offering may not cover.

I have done a few merger projects in the past and I am always exceptionally surprised how little thinking goes into how things are going to work in the future before the deal is signed. Some high level numbers on synergies for the business case but really not that much more.

Large, "reputable" company (German equivalent of someone like Aviva).

    Second Anniversary First Post
    Hi,
I think I've dropped a massive clanger - realised I hadn't had a renewal reminder for my home insurance (buildings and contents) so checked my papers and bank statement to see when last payment had been taken and can't find any payment for the last 12 months!! - I think I presumed it had been renewed automatically but obviously not.  I've always had insurance and have over 15 years no claims.  I tried today to get a new policy online to start immediately.    As I've not had a policy between 14 June 2019 to 14 June 2020 (still got none), I presumed I'd broken the no claims discount chain so under the question "No Claims Discount" I put I have 0 years.  When completed I chose the quote I wanted, clicked to buy but got the message "Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you with a quote.  However, we have teamed you up with Arthur J. Gallagher who specialises in non-standard  home insurance and have a panel of insurers that may be able to help you".  Does this mean that because I've 'missed' a year I won't be able to get insurance? I'm really worried, can anyone give me advice please?
    Thank you,
    DianeMW
