Redudancy/ Benefit help.

Hi all,
Please bear with me, it might be quite a long one!
Since March I have been on fourlough with a job I had been in for two years. About 2 weeks ago they told us that the company would be making huge redundancies across the board, that my job was definitely one in danger. Fast forward three weeks and we are still in limbo about the whole situation and have been put into a 30 day redundancy process which I don't completely understand but know that I'm not officially redundant yet but I know it's coming, if that makes sense.
Now I'm stuck. I've been applying for jobs left right and centre with no luck as of yet and no idea when I will get any sort of redudancy pay ( if any). We have a final pay for furlough at the end of the month and then that's it. Do I apply for something such as JSA now as I'm unsure if I can due to the fact I'll still be having a furlough pay at the end of July. But I understand it could take a few weeks to process as from July I will have zero income and like everyone else have bills to pay and a home to keep. I was just wondering if anyone can help with this. Also if find a new job, do I tell my current employer before I have been officially redundant?
Thank you

If you have worked for them for 2 years you will get notice period and redundancy pay. Although unless your contract says you get enhanced you will not get much. The redundancy process is basically they are deciding what jobs are to go and then who are to go.
If you find a new job in the meantime and tell your employer before you are made redundant then you won't get redundancy pay, still get notice pay.
Benefits depend on the time you apply so although you can apply they will take your current circumstances into account not your potential circumstances. Although granted getting the ball rolling is sometimes a good thing.0 -
Thank You! I thought that would be the case if I get a new job but at this point it's a chance I'm willing to take as I'm so worried about money, the same as alot of people right now. Are they using the 30 days now as our notice pay? As we haven't been informed of that and if so does that mean they won't have to pay us?
Thank you0 -
As we are still on furlough until the end of July
Thanks0 -
Notice period starts the day you get told it is you being made redundant, not when jobs maybe. After all it may not be your job that goes so how can they give you notice?
To be honest if you get a new job with only 2 years service you won't be getting much redundancy pay and you seem fairly confident you will be one of them I would hand my notice in and start the new job. Or try to negotiate a suitable leaving with your current employer.0 -
Yes I do wish they would just tell me but we are in limbo at the moment
Thank you for you help0 -
You won't be able to claim for New style JSA until after you've received your last pay. Whether you're entitled will depend on your NI contributions in tax years April 2017 to March 2019. It pays £73.45 per week (over 25's) for 26 weeks.Universal Credit is means tested and claiming this will depend on your circumstances. Living with a partner means you'll need to claim as a couple. Their earnings will be taken into consideration and will reduce the amount of UC you're entitled to by 63% if you're not entitled to w work allowance. You can claim UC anytime but as advised, your earnings will reduce the amount you're entitled to so it maybe better to wait until you've received your last wages. Use a benefits calculator to check entitlement. If you claim both of these together, your New style JSA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.A claim for UC will end any tax credits you may already be claiming.Council tax reduction can be claimed from your local council.1

They won't tell you at the moment as there is a process to go through to stop claims that it was done unfairly. Granted the majority of the time they will already know.0
