I highjacked a thread which was wrong, so will start again.
I am considering buying an Acer Aspire 3, 15.6" Celeron 4GB, 128GB and then would want to buy an external USB DVD Drive, would they be compatible and work with no problems. Need to view photo's on DVD disc's.
Thanks

They're all standard. Just buy one and plug it in, it'll be fine.

Yes, they will work fine.
Check the USB types on the laptop (USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB 3.1 etc) and buy a disk that matches for the best performance / price.1 -
As above but I would copy all your DVDs to another storage medium too

Thanks each of you, reassuring. I'm quite sure that within a day or so I will have the laptop, once I've familiarised myself with it, then I'll get the USB dvd drive.1

Also be aware that some do need two USB ports, one being for power. I have an Asus.1

I would think twice before buying a laptop with a Celeron N4000. Not much in the way of future proofing on offer there. Better to spend a few pounds more on a decent processor that has a bit of headroom.
It lags behind even the lowliest Ryzen 3: https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Celeron-N4000-vs-AMD-Ryzen-3-3200U/m503050vsm7718050 -

The Central Processing Unit(the thing that does all of the calculations) is quite poor and there is no upgrade path. You can read all about it's performance in the review.
It's £300 for a reason and it's not a good reason.0
