Virgin Money urgent help

Ok so Recently I extended my Virgin Media Contract for 12 months (About 3 weeks ago) 


Ultimate Umph bundle full Package 500mbs Unlimited calls (Land line) Mobile sim Unlimited data/calls & texts 

Today I received Virgin money Debit card?? said pin in next few days (Not opened current account)

Why is this?? did this come with my vm contract?? Or is this due to the vm data breach in March??


currently on hold to vm customer service? Is there anything i need to do? Nothing on my clear score credit report  

All sorted Virgin money has closed account & said someone got my name & address and opened account... Was impersonation fraud but said I am safe etc so all good

I also had one turn up yesterday out of the blue. Turns out it was a replacement debit card for my B Current account, which has been taken over by Virgin Money.

All sorted virgin money closed current account & said loads got opened with different people/address (few days ago) so they closed them all,

put marker on for my safety & said if/when I open current account might have extra checks but I am all safe & nothing will happen to my other accounts 

I have no accounts linked to Virgin money at all

Thank you for the update. It's worrying bank accounts can be opened without the account holders explicit consent.

It can only happen if a substantial amount of your personal information has got into the wrong hands. You can buy a CIFAS Protective Registration if you want to be certain it can't happen to you. Having said this, I haven't got one of these, and am not planning on getting one. Nobody ever attempted / succeeded opening an account in my name, and there are a minute number of cases where MSEers report such occurrences.

Virgin Money Added CIFAS protective Registration to my Credit Report 1st July-1st August 2021

Currently Applied for Club Lloyds Bank Account & looking to Upgrade my Iphone XS to the 12 line up in the next few months With o2 or another provider 

Will this marker affect me in anyway e.g get Declined Etc or will phone company’s Banks lenders ect take extra time to verify me....

This is confusing.

A CIFAS protective registration gets added upon your request, not at the request of a 3rd party.

If Virgin have added a CIFAS marker for you, it will be some other king of marker.

A protective marker will ensure nobody poses as yourself, and you will have to provide additional information when applying for a service or a product but you will be able to get what you want (provided you can provide the extra information required). Any marker of another kind might prevent you from getting any further products or services until the marker gets removed.

Well on my credit score it says

Owning party Clydesdale Bank PLC

1st July 2020-1st August 2021

They told me on the phone added it to protect me & If I apply for any credit Contracts or bank accounts they will do extra security checks but shouldn’t affect me

That is not the same as a protective registration.

You should be able to find the relevant information on the CIFAS site: https://www.cifas.org.uk/services/identity-protection/victim-of-impersonation

looked at CIFAS website & should be ok 😊 I hope

this marker mean will take extra few days for lenders to check my details more so than normal, 

if I give them all the details they need then all good 😊
