Updated Credit Report Status Query

Hey All,
Unsure if anyone can provide advice, so recently been checking credit report (mainly for the encouragement of seeing balances drop whilst i am paying down debt) and for as far back as report goes (early 2014) one creditor marked report as late payment. This has never defaulted and no payments have been made however all of a sudden this has now updated status to 'up to date' could there be any reason why this could be?.
Also its one of the next debts to tackle so when I do pay this off is that now going to stick around on report for another 6 years?
Thanks in advance

If it's showing up to date, then it will be on your file 6 years from closure.
If you get it defaulted, it comes off 6 years from default.1 -
Thank you for reply, I am just really confused as to why it was not defaulted which was a query i was ready to direct to them as i had seen several people suggest writing to ask them to back-date the default to when it should have actually defaulted, so i could have then paid off and it be removed. There's literally been no contact on this debt for at least 6 years - probably longer as debt was present when I left home ( i was giving step mum - money to pay this after leaving home - evidently that never got to the creditor) Just unsure why after 6 years of reporting late payments they would up date the status without any payment being made.Deleted_User said:If it's showing up to date, then it will be on your file 6 years from closure.
