Have Mortgage Insurance? Will this affect Universal credit amount?

Hello. My first post and found myself here as i can't seem to find a definitive answer to my question.
Ok so basically years ago I was unemployed and claimed job seekers allowance ( I am in Scotland btw) - I was claiming my mortgage insurance monthly payments (which covered my mortgage) but was told was an income therefore they would only pay me 10p per week on benifits!
Fast forward to today and like many others I am here again. I get mixed messages from Universal Credit one said 'No it is not counted as an income' and the last one after talks with his team basically said - 'We don't know'
Would anyone in the same situation be able to shed some light on this- is mortgage insurance payments regarded by universal credits as an income?
Many Thanks

It looks like it regarded as non-work income and will be deducted £1 for £1 from your UC award.

Thank you for replying and the link. Was hoping that it would not be counted as it goes straight to my mortgage provider therefore no actual income to myself.0

"Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance where you qualify for support for mortgage interest (for more information see Support for mortgage interest)"
A claimant only qualifies for SMI after 9 consecutive months of zero earnings. Depending on your situation, OP, this sounds like it may possibly not apply (yet).1 -
I find it all a bit confusing really. I am left wondering why I paid my insurance all these years- if it pays out and gets deducted from what I have worked out I should get then it leaves me with not alot. Hmmmm0

See the words I have highlighted in the following paragraph. Insurance which is specifically linked to mortgage protection should be ignored. If speaking to UC please refer them to this (it is their own guidance).
H5086 Payments received under an insurance policy which is insuring against the risk of losing income due to
1 illness or
2 accident or
3 redundancy
are taken fully into account.
Note : Following the introduction of the loans for mortgage interest regulations1 on 6.4.18, Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance (MPPI) policies or any equivalent payments, are no longer taken into account in UC. DMs should ensure that when considering whether any income at H5086 should be taken into account that the policy does not contain an amount for mortgage protection (sometimes referred to as a ‘mixed income protection policy’).Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.2 -
Thank you Calcotti - I will call again tomorrow armed with this info and hopefully the info you have given me will help them give a definite answer this time and put my mind at ease. Glad I used this forum for some help0
