Collections and credit score

Hey
I had an unpaid parking fine which I didn't know about, it's gone to collections. I'm going to pay and appeal later, it's for £140. Is this going to affect my credit score and if so will it impinge on my chance for buying a house in a few months with my partner

Thanks

Lenders can only view what appears on your credit file.

It won't affect your credit rating - the only way it could is if you didn't pay it, and they took you to court, and the court ordered you to pay, and you failed to pay, and you ended up with a CCJ.  A CCJ would definitely be a black mark on your credit history.  It would also affect your score, but that matters not one jot, since any lender neither sees nor cares about your score.

It could if they take it to court and apply for a CCJ, and if you pay that within the first 30 days of the CCJ being granted it wont show on your credit report.  If you don't pay with the 30 days, then it will show on your credit report for 6 years from the date the CCJ was granted.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

    Hello,
Thank you everyone for the help. I've paid the fee (begrudgingly) within 24hrs of receiving it so by the sounds of things it won't be ony credit file.

    Thank you :)

So that means money that goes into collections and is paid immediately won't go on my credit file?

Correct.  The clue's in the name - "credit file".  A fine has nothing to do with credit.  As has been previously stated, if you go to court and end up with a CCJ, that's a different matter, as CCJ's are recorded on your credit file.  But a plain old fine - whether paid immediately or paid when in collections, is no issue from the point of view of your credit record.
