6 Years on, 1 CCJ, 22 Defaults. Now a clean credit file.

16 years in total in debt, bouncing from loan to credit card to payday loan and getting caught up in the vicious circle. The shame of being in that meeting with the mortgage broker with my unaware girlfriend (now wife), when our application was declined. The further shame of having to rely on her getting our mortgage on her own for the last 7 years. The thousands of unnecessary interest handed over. The devastating mental impact as a result of this and relationship damage.

Well today, my final default has dropped off after 6 years. In the last 3 years a further 21 have dropped off and 1 CCJ also dropped off and thankfully I am in a much better place financially, married with a 1 year old girl and in a lovely house. Some turnaround from that night sitting with the mortgage broker when it all came out.

I am proud of myself for turning the corner but more proud of my wife by sticking by me and keeping the family afloat.

No more payday loans, no more high interest, no more debt.

Ok so whats the question? I thought this forum was to ask questions and seek help?
dr_adidas01: You have an entire life to be an idiot. Why not take today off?

Cheers for the nice replies. Yeah it was mainly just posting my story as there are a million stories out there and if one or two are similar to how mine was a few years ago, then a bit of positivity never done anybody any harm.

  • Credit to you @Keano24 you should feel proud of your own personal achievement, if even one person gets something positive from what you posted then it will have been worth your time writing it, I'm sure you agree :)

Wow what a feeling that must be! Massive congratulations. I loved reading this, it's such an inspiration as I'm about 3 years away from where you are. I have 1 CCJ and 10 defaults I'm currently working on paying off, but in about 3 years they'll all be gone from my file and I cant wait for that day.

Hope you have a little celebration

Well done!  I had a similar conversation with my boyfriend (now husband) not long after we met & were looking into mortgages.  I had mountains of credit card debt, one CCJ (due to drop off in Jan'21) and 4 defaults (the 'newest' one drops off Aug'21).  We're now in the process of buying our own house - I have minimal c/card debt (about £1.5k), the CCJ is satisfied & all defaults are settled. I can't wait to jump the final hurdle next year when the black marks disappear completely from my credit history...it's been a long 6yrs!
