HELP PLEASE.EON Smart meter.Have I been given the wrong one?
I have Economy 7 electric with EON and had a new smart meter fitted earlier this year but I can only get a reading of the TOTAL kilowatts and not the separate DAY and Night rates although the meter does indicate the rates at the correct times.
Obviously EON has the readings as they are on the quarterly bills. The total Kw is also displayed on the small wi-fi gadget
I am in the process of changing supplier (through MSE energy club) and I will have to send a meter reading to EDF with both rates but am unable to do this.
Pressing button A it comes up with mainly (to me) meaningless stuff like Total Act Export,Customer ID,Frequency,Power active, power reactive, power factor, total import, total export, voltage, amps and so on!
I am assuming this is a meter for people with solar panels which we do not!
I am worried that I will not be able to change suppliers ( EDF also Economy 7) so can anybody help please?
Thank you.

You have the correct meter. The meter is capable of much more than you need from it, and it is not one of the easiest to read manually, but there is nothing wrong with being on E7 and having that meter installed.Do take care though as you need the kWh readings, not the kVAh reading as you have in one of those photos. You have got the correct rate 01 Act Imp reading there in the last photo and the second rate will be the difference between that and the Total Act Import reading in kWh which you will have seen on the meter or your IHD.0

Morning Becket,
Thank you MWT.You’ll see your reading on the front display. If you have a two-rate meter, the active reading is displayed. To see the next reading, press and hold the B button for three seconds, then press the A button and the next reading will appear.
There is also a few guides and videos on the website, that can help with reading the IHD and your actual meters, I'm sorry I can't post links.
If you do still get stuck, please contact us and we can talk you through it, we can also send out an information booklet, although this should have been left with you when the meter was installed.
Thank you
Helena

If it helps, Becket, this is the sort of thing you should see:The total of those two should match the total you see on your IHD. (the little screen you have in the house).1

Thank you very much Helena. So easy when you know how!!
I was not left any instructions about reading the meter only the little wi fi thing!.
I even photographed EVERY readout and sent it to EON (chat line I think it was)some time ago when I tried to read it and he was just as confused as me.
I would have been happy to stay with EON but being elderly and a large user around 13,000 kw we had no choice.
If EON can give us a better rate we will stay!

It's a shame you've decided to leave, I understand you need to get the best prices, along with the comparison site you can see the tariffs we can offer you via your online account.
Thank you for letting me know.

. Have you tried to minimise your consumption by turning stuff off when not in use and tweaking your heating and hot water times and temperatures. Even reducing the amount of hot water you use by not letting it run down the sink, taking shorter showers, shallower baths or reducing the number that you take can have an effect. washing and rinsing stuff (including your hands) in cold rather than hot.
Only using the washing machine, dryer or dishwasher when they are full rather than only half loaded can also make a difference.
Being elderly (whatever that might mean) shouldn't stop you from using you energy intelligently - as you'll be reading the meter a bit more often then you'll have a much better idea of what you use and when - you could keep a spreadsheet. Do it monthly or even more frequently and see how small tweaks could have a big effect on your consumption - even more so when the heating season arrives in October.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
