iPad Warranty Issue *HELP*

Hi,
I have an apple iPad that was purchased from sky with a finance agreement in August 2018.
At the beginning of lockdown, the iPad hit a lul so I decided to do an update. I updated and the software didn't install correctly which broke my ipad.
I went to apple support for ‘support’ but after we tried EVERYTHING they said the only option I had was to take it into an apple store
so I have been without my iPad for months whilst still paying sky for a broken device.
I went to the apple store and they came to the same problem I had when connecting to iTunes. I was told by the ‘genius’ that there was nothing further they could do and that there is a very small percentage or iPads that get this fault and it basically means its the end of the road.
As i am out of the 1year warranty period he told me that i would have to pay £400.00 as a service charge to get this replaced, as they cant repair. But this is the same amount that i owe on it so there is no point.
Now i am stuck with an ipad that doesn't work that I am still paying for monthly.
How is it that apple products that cost in the region of £1000.00 only have 1year warranty and 0 customer service to help fix a problem that I didn't even cause. Is there no consumer right that covers this
Any help/advice/idea would be much appreciated!!!
