Your stress I think is a separate issue and needs dealing with for your long term wellbeing

Whilst employees should still work at home where they can you are required to attend in person if they should ask you to. They have decided it’s in the companies best interests for you to return and although you disagree there isn’t a great deal that can be done about it without rocking the boat as you said.

it might be best to consider now whether you want to go back to that job and stress or whether you use this as the opportunity to change things despite the difficulties out there
An answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......

It is still the guidance that you work from home if you can. Why does your boss think the staff can't be as efficient working from home?
I think legally the word "can" includes the employers consenting to you working from home.
Some bosses automatically think staff can't be as efficient and some employees aren't as efficient working from home.
It would be absurd if the guidance could be overruled by unjustified and prejudiced behaviour.
It is guidance, not law, so pretty much can be given a stiff ignoring.

Unless your contract entitles you to home working then you can’t demand it.
You could try asking your GP about a fit note suggesting modified duties (home working) or if a large employer talk to the company doctor. However, ultimately* it is up to your manager to decide what is a reasonable adaptation or not.

    *and then an employment tribunal.

It would be very disappointing if one of the few benefits from this pandemic (elimination of wasted time and reduction in pollution caused by the daily commute) is lost.

I felt like this 1:05pm last Friday after the bosses seemed to do a uturn on home working for a return Monday, put the laptop back on Sunday, saw red mist Saturday (a wasted day or two of worrying but there was no way I could get excited) with family arguments galore but by 10am Monday all was back to normal and I was silently giggling along. Today I had to apologise to my parents.
The boss said a couple of times good for us all to be back together and I will believe it.
I've even been walking distance to a hotel I worked in this time last summer but nothing was as bad as home working. It's ok to leave the house.
I can’t follow this at all. Have you posted in the wrong thread?

No. This particular poster often posts things of no relevance to the original OP on these boards.

There'll be change. Though won't fit all circumstances. Responsibility and trust being paramount in arriving at individual decisions.

Some have found work at home stressful and isolating.
