EDF smart meter fail

Options

5 days ago I had a smart meter fitted but it’s not sending EDF the readings nor communicating with the in-home display unit. EDF smart customer service team say it must be poor signal. As you see it has full signal, any advice?

Put the toy in a drawer and forget about it until you move out.  Just send meter readings each month.

No, it's not yours, so you leave it in the drawer so that it can be used by the next occupant.
I'd have said 'bin it' if I were suggesting you threw it away.

The IHD is a known EDF problem.
It may wake up and start sending readings.
But a worry - its reading 00580 Kwh . You say it was installed 5 days ago - 120 units a day is a staggering amount. Check the card / label that was left by the fitter - did that say 00000 ?
Read it again tomorrow - normal advance would be 9 or 10 units.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Long story but April this year i switched electric from British Gas (who fitted that meter) to EDF, 5 days ago EDF who i've always had my Gas with fitted a gas meter and also tampered with my electric meter which up util that point had been sending half hourly readings to EDF and showing on my in home display. but following the EDF fitter it stopped sending electic readings and in-home display no longer showes usage, the Gas was a no starter neither on the in-home display nor sending EDF my readings. So at a worse point following the EDF fitters visit.

Write,- don't phone, don't email - letter headed COMPLAINT to EDF

  • I have emailed title - complaint and their team call me but say it's down to poor signal. They don't take on board that it it has full signal and up until the EDF fitters visit my electic meter was sending them readings and showing on in-home display. So annoying. Thank you
  • I've had 3 IHDs since January from EDF. Still not working.Currently under investigation with OFGEM. EDF say it's a signal issue from the hub to the IHD.But the IHD shows max signal strength. They just don't have a clue as to what's wrong and don't seem to have the right tools to correctly identify where the issue is. The IHD might work for a day, then goto 'waiting for data' for days, then start working again for a short while...
