The airline has closed it's hub at the airport in a move to reduce staff numbers.

EasyJet has also closed it's bases at Newcastle and Stansted, with 5,000 staff set to be sacked, according to the Sun.

The huge announcement comes as bosses admit the rest of it's UK network is "under review."

Easyjet has previously said it may struggle to reach expected revenue targets until 2023, because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Thread title probably needs changing to account for the fact it is three airports, not just one.

They will continue to fly to the three airports but I cant imagine they would get many flights, Easyjet dont have loads of non-UK bases outside Switzerland I dont think.

Actually the report has changed - they are closing the staff hub base - so as above there is the possibility that flights might operate but with planes being brought in rather than stabled overnight at the various airports.

There is more detail being added to the story all the time, another poor lot of staff hit with possible redundancy.

The only flights that will operate are those from other bases. I cant imagine this will be many.

I suspect you are right, I was trying to be positive as my next holiday is booked out of Southend with guess who!

Easyjet often have the first flight slots in the morning which as Southend is residential is 6am so it is unlikely that they will continue as they wouldn't be able to fly in beforehand. I don't know what the situation is for the other airports but I imagine it is pretty much the same.

All we can do is wait and see .
