I love the house. It's perfect but I'm thinking of the bacteria that mice and rats carry and wouldn't want my child subjected to anything nasty. If it's straight forward to get sorted I'll be happy. It is a mid-terraced house.

Seriously easy to deal with if you have to. I have a massive hornet nest in my loft, I keep it there because it’s an apparant deterrent for new nests and wasps don’t reuse nests. Haven’t had any in years.

i have had rats. Put some poison down as had no choice I couldn’t get into the tiny spaces they ran around in and no more rats a couple Of days later.

If that’s all you are worried about on the survey you have a very good one.

It's usually the kids who are brought up in totally sterile environments, who rarely play outdoors and never with mud etc who are the ones with the allergies and asthma. These medical problems weren't anywhere near so prevalent when I was growing up.
I wouldn't tolerate mice in the attic, but that would be because I'd worry they might chew the electric cables. I agree, rats aren't acceptable, even outdoors, as they carry diseases, but if rats were present I'd worry something nearby was attracting them. We have been living in the countryside for over a decade now with our own animal feed store and two others within 100m, but I've yet to see a live rat. There will be a few around, but no big colony, which means our neighbours are being responsible too.
I asked whether it was a terraced house because it's obviously harder eradicating mice etc when joined to other houses. It's therefore sensible to give both neighbours' properties a good looking-at  to see if there's anything that hints at slobbish behaviour.

I was once told a mouse can enter through a hole you can get a biro pen through. So that is every air brick.
So almost ALL houses will be open to mice getting in.  It is a fact of life.  Your present house probably has or has had them without you knowing.

Mind you, at my school they would have been grilles!
  • Our local Council will deal with rats for free and charge around £50 for mice.
