Car Hit While Parked
Good Afternoon,
My car was hit in March while stationary outside my house by my partners ex-boyfriend in the early hours of the morning. The incident was reported to the police and various witness statements were taken, they even admitted to me while taking my statement that they had the driver in custody and his car which has damaged to match my damage.
I'm assuming he is now imprisoned for breaking the terms of his bail for a previous incident, and his insurance is not getting any response from him to accept liability. My insurance is advising they have applied for a police report but until they get that back nothing can be done. Is there anything I can do to speed up the obtaining of the police report? I have motor legal protection on my insurance but they seem to be pretty unhelpful throughout this and are hiding behind "we need a police report".
Edit: I'm trying to reclaim my costs for insurance excess and increased premium due to there been a claim on my insurance rather than it just been an incident I was involved in.
Regards,
David

Is your insurance comprehensive or third party? If it is comprehensive, then your car should simply be repaired and the claims resolution after the fact.0

Sorry should have been more specific, apologies. They've written off the car however I've had to pay the excess (£750) and due it been an unsettled claim it has impacted my insurance premium as it's classed as claim until settled. I'm fully comprehensive insured with motor legal protection.Grumpy_chap said:Is your insurance comprehensive or third party? Have your insurance requested and paid for a copy of the police report yet?0

Your issue seems to be remarkably similar to this chap's experience.
