While HSBC are among the pickiest lenders and strictest, it would be prudent to consider getting a broker who are familiar with HSBC, than DIY and going straight.

The broker will know whats needed and may predict what you may need depending on the documents you gave to them. They will then handle the rest. All this stress on waiting in the call queue, speaking to someone who doesn't know your case is a nightmare in itself

Brokers will usually have direct contacts or contacts they know in the underwriting team, but most of all minimal contact needed by you.

My broker handled everything for me, no phone call, just a few emails for documents and jobs done. Had some queries but sent the documents and the broker had to sort it out.

I simply don't have time to chase lenders, my broker was free and local too. Which was a bonus, but I have used paid brokers to good effect too.

Totally agree, a broker is the best way and I'm sure some application have flown through with no issues.

However when it comes to HSBC they currently have the most competitive rates on the market - hence the demand that they're unable to cope with. They're so unable to cope with the demand due to their competitiveness in a reduced product market at the moment that they're limiting broker applications each day. Which means that if people want to take advantage of their rates then they're driven to go direct with them and sacrifice on the service.

They need to sort it out but quite frankly it comes down to the fact that they purely don't care about service. If your application is slightly not straight forward i.e. self-employment, they either kick it around for weeks or just don't want to know.

I tried calling the number 0345 603 0171 which someone put in this thread  and after an hour and half on hold a lady answered from the sales team not the underwriter team! She said because I went through a broker she can’t see any details on my application on there system.

I need to speak to an underwriter to find out reasons why my application through mortgage broker was declined as my MOrtgage broker is useless and not telling me properly.

Does anyone know how I can get in touch with an underwriter at HSBC?
