Earning less before coronavirus

Options
So I sold some of my work last year and was therefore  earning less money than I was the previous tax years. I am still self employed and meet all the criteria for the Seiss grant so I applied for it. However, as the calculations were done from the previous tax years I have received more money than I have missed out on. Where do I stand with regard calculating how much I should have and what do I do with the rest? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You do not need to calculate anything, the money is yours, do with it as you wish, so long as you pay the tax due on it on your next self-assessment.

Well this must be the first person to moan about receiving too much money. Usually it's the other way round.

To be fair, a few have asked whether it is OK to claim when they have only been adversely affected in a modest way.

I think the OP is saying they earned less in 2019-20 than previous years on which the SEISS grant was calculated.
Who is not to say that 2019-20 was just a bad year?  We've had more than enough posts on here with people claiming the got a low grant based on 2016-17, 2017-18 an 2018-19 and it is unfair that the grant did not take into account their "Del Boy Millionaire" year that 2019-20 was.  About time we see someone for whom the deck fell in their favour.

I’m not moaning just want to be honest. I know it’s unusual but then Jehovah’s Witnesses are considered unusual by some. 😂

There is no mechanism to return part of a grant. It is all or nothing. It has been accepted by government that some people will gain more from the grant than they lose from coronavirus. If it is a personal moral issue, select a charity you support and give it a donation.
