Hello, a friend said this is a cherry tree. Is it? Are the fruit edible? Would you know what type of cherry tree is called?

Ned fruit picture to confirm. If it is then yes it's edible, may not be palatable though

It is a cherry tree. It may produce fruit, but if it hasn't any at present then it may be barren or the local birds are quicker than you.As Farway says, even if it produces fruits, they may not be something you would want to eat anyway.
An app will tell you its a cherry, but it will be a very clever app if it can tell you what its fruit tastes like or what root stock its on!

The trunk looks like a flowering cherry, the decorative kind.
It's a case of wait and see what sort of blossom and when really.
Also many cherries need a second cherry tree to cross polinate or no cherries so even if edible you need to know what type it is.
