Hello,
My friend and I and our children are meant to be flying to Gran Canaria on 26th July with Ryan Air for one week. I have been in direct contact with the hotel and have confirmation from them in writing that our hotel is closed until December this year. I have forwarded this information to On the beach but am yet to hear back. At present our flights with Ryan Air are not cancelled. I have tried calling on the beach on numerous occasions but I am unable to get through. I wondered if anyone else has been in this situation and has any advice? Do I try and claim through my travel insurance, wait for onthebeach or try my credit card?
Many thanks in advance.

  • If what you have booked is a package holiday with On The Beach, then the fact your hotel is closed should mean either they book you into another hotel of same standard (some t's and c's dictate this) or refund you the whole lot!   BUT I am simply appalled at the lack of communication from these third parties!   Many people who are due to go in a weeks time do not know what they are doing yet!  Either one flight cancelled, hotel cancelled, both flights cancelled but hotel open!  They insist it isn't a package when it should be.......  (It is just a nightmare)

As your holiday date is 26th July, I don't think you will be successful claiming on insurance or credit card yet!   They will ask you to contact On the Beach to see what they can do first.

So I think all you can do at the present moment in time is watch and wait and see what the situation is nearer to the time.  Just because your flights aren't cancelled now doesn't mean they won't be at some point (although don't pin all your hopes on that either).
  • Their facebook page is full of complaints because they have shut the phone lines but they are also not answering correspondence within the website either atm. I know there is still a chance things could get cancelled and tbh we took a long time to choose the hotel, so ideally I would prefer a refund and rebook myself once I know for sure a little normality has resumed in the world.
