Wall tie replacement quote

Hi All - first poster here!
We have had an offer accepted on a 1930’s 3 bed detached house, and the survey came back with a possible wall tie issue. We have had a specialist out to have a look by drilling holes and inserting a camera in to have a look. They have advised that all the wall ties need to be replaced, and have quoted £14,000 for this work. From doing a few google searches this seems extortionate! We paid for the specialist survey to try and avoid a company coming out for free and trying to tout for work by telling us lots of work needs to be done to make the house structurally sound. Has anyone else had this done on a similar property, and if so how much was it?

Hi there - I had an independent surveyor do a wall tie survey as I didn't want anyone with a conflict of interests telling me I had any issues. I have also been told that I need to replace wall ties in my 1930 end of terrace house - only the rear and side elevations as the front seems to be okay. I have received 2 quotes from the same contractor, one for £2,970 before VAT (this one doesn't follow the guidance given by the surveyor on carrying out the work) and one for £6,670. Not sure of the size of your walls - you have 4 and I have 2 that need to be done but they seem fairly close... I will also need to get the cavity wall insulation removed before and then replaced after the work which is going to cost an additional amount.1
