DVLA were not dealing with post due to covid 19 restrictions so there is a back log to be dealt with.
You could be liable to a fine for not renewing it.0 -
Only the photo expires. So long as you applied to renew you can drive.

Confusing, perhaps. Totally irrelevant, definitely. The OP is asking about his photocard, not a counterpart or paper licence.FWIW, the relevant law [Road Traffic Act 1988 section 99] says that a licence "shall, unless previously revoked or surrendered, remain in force ... for the period ending on the seventieth anniversary of the applicant’s date of birth or for a period of three years, whichever is the longer"So his photocard has expired, but his licence, and his entitlement to drive, has not. Unless he's over 70.
