Cancelling a car insurance

Options
As always i check round to get the best price for my car insurance.  Although my renewal was not bad from last year i still wanted to see what was out there.  I did manage to get one from the RAC which was quite a bit cheaper so i booked it with them and then cancelled my old one.   When i phone my old company they gave me such a good deal i could not refuse.  I phoned to cancel my RAC old but because of the long wait on the phone i kept leaving it.  On the 14day from taking out the police with the RAC i decided that no matter how long it took i was going to get it sorted.  Once I got onto someone  I was bombarded with all sorts of 'knowledge and figures of money' about the policy.  It turns out that the RAC charge £25 for taking out the policy.  I never saw that!  so, although i was cancelling a week before it was to start, I was being charge £8.49.  I was so angry I could not understand how this figure came about.  As i said all sorts was told me but i just saw red and could not understand it.  I agreed to just let them take the money.  What i was interested to know from others - 1 is this allowed?  i cancelled within 14 days and a week before it was due to start and 2 have others found themselves being stolen from?  3 is there anywhere i can go to claim this back?  Many thanks and sorry its long winded

what was agreed in the original T+Cs when you took out the policy ? If the admin charge was there, you have no come back I'm afraid.
Always phone the old insurer after getting quotes to haggle BEFORE buying a new one.

It is in the T&C's that there is an admin charge, clearly written for reading before taking the policy and also available in the self-service centre.

Next time, get the quotes, revert to the renewal insurer to see if they can price match before starting a new policy, also read the T&C's.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
