Everest turns into Everest 2020
I am sure Martin Lewis may be interested in Everest's scam - being such a household name. Surely ditching existing customers, taking on new orders and using exactly the same branding is inappropriate and must be against some rule within trading standards? Is there any action that can be taken against Everest / Everest 2020?

I think Martin's too busy counting his money from selling this website to spend time on the forum...mrdk007 said:I am sure Martin Lewis may be interested in Everest's scam - being such a household name. Where you've got a brand as well-known as Everest, it's pretty normal for that to be sold on with the rest of the business - there's nothing unlawful about the new company having the same branding as the old one, even if it sticks in the craw of the creditors. If somebody, for example, buys Debenhams from their administrators, do you really expect the shops to end up being called something other than Debenhams?3 -
we had some of our windows installed by EVEREST on 21st October 2019.We had a number of issues, some of which were rectified, some were not.On 03/03/2020 we had a quote for the remaining windows and were told to inform the surveyor of the outstanding issues, deposit paid for new windows on debit card. On 18/03/2020 the surveyor measured up and ordered replacement parts for the remedial works. On 23/03/2020 we had a letter stating "your products have now entered manufacture".On 25/03/2020 we had another letter stating " your replacement parts are now on order with our factory. As soon as the installation centre are in receipt of your parts,we will call you to arrange a convenient appointment for the completion of outstanding work"We were informed the business decided to pause all operations on 26th March due to COVID-19.On 01/07/2020 we had a telephone call to arrange the installation of the new windows on 21st July 2020, but not the remedial works. On 07/07/2020 we had another telephone call to they would not be completing the remedial works. If I wanted a quote for the remedial works this could be arranged, and I would have to pay for the work to be completed.I was informed the remedial works, were arranged with the previous company which went into administration (8th June) and not with the new company. I said the order for my new windows was also arranged with the previous company and if they would not complete the remedial works, then they could not come to install the new windows,as they were arranged at the same time. Any advice on how to proceed greatly appreciated.

Comparing with Debenhams is a very basic and unreaslistic representation of the issue... Everest is no more. The new company is now Everest 2020 (a change in the name) the directors are the same. the website claim its been in business for 50 years (well its barely 50 days).davidmcn said:

Anyway, regardless... if one wants to compare this with Debenhams, its like you bought a suit from Debenhams, they suddenly went under administration, and opened up again days later. You try on the suit and discover there are holes in the trousers. You take it back to the shop and they say "tough, you bought the trousers at the old Debenhams, we are the NEW Debenhams, so we can't exchange or give you the money back, bye!"
The difference here is we are talking about £10K products rather than a £100 suit.0 -
Yes, and exactly the same legal principles apply.mrdk007 said:

Sorry! OP the time for asking advice on here about Everest was before you purchased the windows etc.mrdk007 said:I unfortunately purchased Everest Windows (by debit card - yes I am kicking myself!!!). Contract signed Dec 2018, installed June 2019. The windows and installation have been appalling, having had numerous visits from Everest service engineers, quality department, etc to fix the numerous issues. They were going to complete the "final" issues then covid hit. The rest is history. Like others, Everest (old) are not interested with existing customers.. Has anyone else approached the insurance company for the warranty? Has Has anyone used "chargeback"?

Then you would not be on here now asking for advice. The only thing known about them was the poor quality of product, shoddy workmanship and poor customer service. That is being polite.
Advice would have probably been go with a small local, long established independent company etc?
Did you do due diligence or just relied on the fact they were "such a household name"?
Everest are gone. Everest 2020 is to all intents and purposes is a new company that has bought the brand/staff/premises etc.
Unfortunately company's do go into administration and are taken over again. Have you insurance as you say you have insurance warranty? separate company?

People use chargeback all the time.mrdk007 said:Has anyone used "chargeback"?
A problem that you will have with chargeback is that there is a usually a time limit of 120 days following the sale.
