Car Mot
Hi,
Trying to find the answer for a Friend regarding his MOT. Basically he brought a Car 2 years ago and somehow didn't realise he had more MOT left then what he realised so basically it was due in December and he has been doing his MOT in June instead (6 months earlier). This month he has taken his car in for a MOT and it has failed on tyres and coil springs. My question is:-
Now car has failed does he need to get the repairs done straight away now he has had a MOT although technically MOT isn't even due yet because obviously this will change the next MOT date and he dont want to be pulled by the Police either... Thanks for your help!

So your 'friend' has a car which they know is dangerous, but they want to carry on driving it?
Ask yourself if that is a sensible option.

Each tyre is 3 points and a fine.
ANd if he's in an accident, defective tyres are one of the few things that an insurer will refuse to pay up for. So they could pay out to the third party, and then come after him to repay the money.0 -

Hi,
Sorry got my information wrong. I am not advising my Friend to break the law I personally think he should get the work done since he has failed his Mot but is tricky now he didn't realise he shouldn't have had a Mot until December.
Information I got wrong was car failed on car lamps and coil springs ( major fault), advisory on tyres which all 4 need replacing.

Your friend had the car for 2 years and it had an MOT that ran out in December. For what ever reason, the MOT was renewed 6 months early in June, thus negating the December expiry. There is not now a December MOT as it ran out last December (2019) at the latest and the June MOT just ran out too. Your friend needs to get the car fixed.0

I think that he bought it in June 18, had it tested in june 2019 which would have ran out in jun 2020. The 6 month covid extension has been added which is why it now shows as due in dec 2020.
The most you can get on an MOT is 13 months by testing 1 month early.
His insurance and probably police would make life rather difficult if he had an accident knowing his car was unsafe.0 -
If his MOT was due earlier this month, but had received the covid extension, then the fail automatically cancels the extension and he is now driving around with no MOT.
Look at https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ to see the actual status.
If it's failed on tyres, the tyres are illegal - the line is the same. If they're just an advisory, then they're legal - but not by much.
He's an idiot for taking it in with lights out.
Broken coil springs can, on many cars, rotate and the sharp end puncture a tyre.0 -
Non event. Tyre wear out and get damaged they get replaced. Literally wear and tear items. The mot doesn't feature in that equation, they need replacing, they get replaced.0
