Just thought I’d update what my mums work coach replied this morning. My mum asked for an update in regards to face to face.

They said they have not received full guidance yet, when they do open it will be for urgent enquiries only and she expects face to face appointments to not resume for a long while yet.
Also any new appointment will almost certainly be on a date when she would have signed anyway if all this had not happened. Obviously this can be worked out on a calendar. I do understand the worry. jobcentres are a source of alot of stress. My jobcentre didnt even inform me signing had been suspended.

Jobcentres in England will now open as and when local arrangements make that possible, there will be no set date, people will still be asked to make contact digitally where they can but there will be free access to Jobcentres that are open (with socially distancing 2 metre guidelines)

Incorrect, from July 4, 2 metre as been changed to 1 metre social distancing.

I would think even with 1 metre it would halve the number of pc’s in jobcentres that can be used for jobsearch. Therefore surely they would realise it would be unjust to expect people to use them as that could cause a problem with availability. They will no doubt have to clean everything after each use, desk, seat, keyboard, mouse.

Rubbish, so Job Centre's are special? all around England, 1 metre will be enforced from July 4, what makes Job Centre special? do you have this to back it up what you are saying????

I don't think that's correct and the advice from sammyjammy certainly isn't rubbish. From 4th July the social distance rule is being reduced to 1 meter + BUT only if the 2 meter rule isn't possible. If you can't remain 2 meters then extra precaution needs to be taken, for EG a face mask... See link and scroll down to 3.4. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do/coronavirus-outbreak-faqs-what-you-can-and-cant-do-after-4-july#gatherings-public-spaces-and-activities

3.4 What does the review of 2m mean in practice?

From 4 July, people should either stay 2m apart or ‘1m plus’ – which is one metre plus mitigations. These mitigations will depend on the workplace or setting. For example, on public transport, people must wear a face covering, as it is not always possible to stay 2m apart.

In other spaces, mitigations could include installing screens, making sure people face away from each other, putting up handwashing facilities, minimising the amount of time you spend with people outside your household or bubble, and being outdoors.

We have set out COVID-19 Secure guidance to help businesses take the measures that are right for them.

Job Centres are being made ready for opening, but exact arrangements are being worked out.   Many Job Centres are co-located with Local Councils, so DWP will have to hold conversations with those Councils. In such locations DWP will not have full responsibility for Health & Safety issues and the local Councils may have different ideas about arrangements.

And it is most likely going to be strictly by appointment in many Job Centres.  They may not have the socially distanced space to accommodate people without appointments.  And if people are late to appointments, I suspect they may be turned away, if there is no room for them to wait.  Obviously they may have to accommodate urgent requests for assistance, but people may find they are waiting outside if there is not adequate safe space to wait inside the Job Centre.

I believe those that are going to require face to face appointments will be given exact details of arrangements at their local Job Centre, at the time the appointments are arranged.  DWP have a large number of offices, with some quite small, so those with  little room are going to be  very restricted in terms of numbers allowed in their offices.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

No where is special. If you can still stay 2m apart then you need to be doing this. It’s not the case that we are reverting to a 1m rule. It’s 1m plus, if mitigation’s can be met. It’s not changing to automatically going from 2m to 1m everywhere.
  • This guidance has had a slight update so I’m thinking for the foreseeable anyway it looks like you will be asked to attend in exceptional circumstances.
