Hello - I have a holiday due for the 16th July 2020 for 1 week to KOS with Jet2. It is due in 18 days time & I am still unsure if it is going ahead. We have received all the documents through on email. To amend this holiday to a later date is going to cost me £375 & the extra money on top of that, which I would prefer to cancel altogether  & I am unsure if i move it that my Barclays Travel Insurance (which is part of my Account Pack & I have had this for years) will cover me. I have read that I can claim back on my travel insurance with Barclays if the FCO advises against all but essential travel abroad & that the advise is still in place within 31 days of departure than I can cancel & claim this back. Is this correct?

No Brit will be getting into Greece on the 16th July, the Greek government have just extended the ban to the 19th. Jet2 will cancel in due course and you will be refunded
  • Hi - Where did you hear that re - Greek Government extended the ban, if this is correct I will be so relieved

It is on the BBC News ticker today at 3.20pm but sorry, I misread it 🤦‍♂️ its been extended until the 15th, not the 19th.
  • So from that information then we would be allowed into the country, So I am unsure what to do now.

Well sorry to say these are your options:

    - move the holiday and incur the extra costs this brings
    - dont go on it and lose the lot
    - dont go on it and see if travel insurance covers you but I doubt it would if FCO advice by then has changed
    - go on holiday on the 16th
    - cross your fingers they cancel it anyway for some reason.

We were due to go to Kos on 28th July with Jet2. We found out last week that our hotel is closed for the rest of the year. They cancelled our holiday and are providing a refund.

Where did you read that about your travel insurance? The only place that matters is your own insurers terms and conditions. We’ve seen people on here with a 31 day clause. I have a 28 day one. We have also seen people say that they aren’t covered to cancel at all if the cancellation is caused by Government action.

I am with Barclays & as far as I am concerned the following statement will apply:
If you booked your trip before the FCO advised against all but essential travel abroad and that advice is still in place within 31 days of your departure date , your cancellation costs will be covered.
Another thing you could check. I am due to fly to Spain on the 19th July. I went on to My Bookings on the Jet2 website & clicked on Cancel my flight. On there it gave me an option for a refund even though it appears my flight is still going ahead albeit it looks like the flight time outbound may change. I know our circumstances are different but might be worth a quick check.
