I'm a little gobsmacked really,  i didn't expect it to be so bad.
Family holiday was booked for Lanzarote end of July for 2 weeks. Villa and Ryan Air!
Villa i had no choice but to cancel (24 hours before the deadline,  a couple of weeks ago otherwise would have lost more money).
I would have worked with Ryan Air to move these flights to next year, same time same place etc!
I would have even paid towards doing it, i understand its difficult etc etc.
Got through on online chat and they just didn't want to know, no help to change, no refunds, no vouchers no nothing at all! So the government says i shouldn't travel,  Ryan Air are ignoring that and want to charge me (get this bit) £850.00 to change my flights which cost £1,300. They were rude & arrogant , quite possibly the worst customer service I've ever come across.
So seems like I'm stuffed, cos i bet my insurance and CC don't want to know either!
Anyone else had this yet?

Why, oh why, did you cancel?  Both the villa and the flight are likely to be available/go ahead.  Nobody owes you anything - you have chosen not to go on holiday.

You two are total morons, people like you give forums like this at really poor name, i canceled the villa not the flights, my own making ? how do you work that one out ? , people like you wont say boo to a goose if you speak face to face, put you on a forum and you'll slag everyone off cos you know better! I have not chosen to not go on holiday,  the governments advice until today is not to fly , and frankly i like my family too much to stick them in a busy environment close up with people who may have it, and my insurance would be null and void for everything CV19 related , so genius what do you do with that?
So mr and mrs superior my own making was it?> so you knew this would happen right? you knew buying on a CC with very good insurance would not be enough etc etc ?

If your insurance covers you for not travelling due to FCO advice then you should be using that.  However, you will need to wait until you are certain that the no travel advice still stands at the time of your flight, which now looks unlikely.  That will mean you cannot claim the cost off any other party if you choose not to travel.

I am afraid that the posters are right. Government advice is changing and there would not have been anything to stop you from taking your holiday. Yes: maybe you might have felt unsafe for the journey, but since official advice is that it is safe to travel you do not have any reason to cancel without penalty.

But you're not going for another 3 to 4 weeks - and the governments advice is changing daily.  You have jumped the gun......
