Trying to cancel a booked holiday with no answer

We have booked a trip with Love holidays and the had paid the deposit through barcaycard, the final and main payment is about to be taken for this trip which we are desperate to cancel but cannot get through to anyone at Love holidays to do so, losing the deposit will be annoying but manageable, the main payment about to be taken is much larger though and we dont want to incur that much loss. After waiting for over an hour to get through to Barclaycard their operator told us they could not stop the main payment being taken as paying the deposit meant we entered a contract with Love Holidays- can this actually be the case?, something about that just doesnt sound right but thats the official barclaycard line.
We are about to lose a couple of thousand pounds and there seems there is nothing we can do to stop it.
What can we do now?

None of these companies are answering any queries, perhaps deliberately to avoid repayments but its leaving normal folk out of pocket massively by doing so.

If you're choosing to cancel then you need to find out from the Ts & Cs what the cancellation terms are, i.e. whether you just forfeit the deposit or if you may be contractually liable for other costs too.  These terms are also likely to confirm what Barclaycard are saying that the holiday company is entitled to take balance payment from the card used for the deposit.

Contacting such companies is proving difficult for many so if establishing a date of cancellation is important then you may need to resort to some form of recorded delivery letter as well as emails, etc....
  • When are you due to travel Monstyr?    If your scheduled holiday is some way off and has not been cancelled then you will lose whatever you agreed to at the time of booking (see cancellation charges in your t's and c's).    Can you cancel your booking on the 'Manage my booking' section on their website?    Depending on when you are due to travel you may owe more than the deposit to them.

Remember that some deposits are small 'holding' deposits and if you cancel, you may be liable for the full amount of the deposit, not the reduced amount you paid.

You need to check your T&Cs.
There's nothing more sinister to them not answering the 'phone other than them having a tiny amount of staff, and probably 1000x more calls than usual to answer.
