Car Finance in Ex-Partners Name

My ex paid £81 on the 16th June (why I still don't know, because we have no contact). I paid the remaining £82.18 today. I spoke to an agent at the Finance Company a few minutes ago. He informed me that a letter would be sent out to me and my ex, stating that everything is paid up etc. I asked the agent whether any paperwork of new ownership would be sent out and he said no. He explained that as my name was on the logbook I wouldn't have much to worry about. I am trying not to worry but people are saying different things. I just know that he's planning something because he wouldn't pay £81 and expect nothing in return. I cannot contact him, as he was abusive to me, so we couldn't speak normally. People are talking about Ballon Payments, what is this? The Car is a used H Reg Mondeo that was being paid for monthly. The last payment made by me today. Thankyou to everyone for their advise,0

Initially you said you couldn't make the final payment as it was already paid.0 -
Sorry, Renault Modus Diamonique H Reg. My ex made a payment on the 16th and I made the final payment this morning, so the agreement is all paid up now. When the finance company send letters out to me and him stating the agreement is fully paid. Do they send new ownership paperwork? I asked the agent on the phone earlier and he said no they wouldn't. But finally, yes, I did make the final payment this morning myself - just to clarify0

I'm still confused by this H reg, I had a VW Corrado which was a H reg and sure it was 1st registered in 1990.
The main thing is the finance is cleared and the lender does not have a charge on the vehicle, with respect nearly £3k of finance paid at the rate you mention less any deposit , so the car is probably not valued at £3K, so I doubt you will have a fight on your hands, it would cost to fight and not a great return on the monies.
There could be a host of reasons he had made the payment eg to increase his credit score or sever all ties, I doubt in the time he has not found a new love along the way.0 -
I think "H-reg" is being used to mean it was first registered in Hampshire...
Hx20xxx
With post-2001 plates, it's the digits, not the first letter, which are the age identifier. The first letter is merely a pointer to where in the country it was sold new.1 -
I'm sorry if I made some errors explaining everything, I'm really not good at dealing with all this and am extremely upset by my ex paying the £81 towards the car finance after all this time. I know what an evil piece of work he is and feel he has some sort of plan behind this payment. I would like to say thanks to everyone that has offered advice, you've all been so kind, and once again, apologies for getting things mixed up, no excuse but my head is all over the place!
I have been told it's a 57 Plate, so not worth much, but I do rely on it for hospital appointments0 -

There is little point in stressing over something that has not happened, by paying some towards it and it's stressed you, then if there is any malice in the action it is already done.
His name is on the agreement so he has to protect his credit record.0
