Upgrading Ram

I’m sorry jonnygee, I did not understand your answer correctly, not knowing much about computers, so you are saying the ram sticks have to be brought as a pair, so they are exactly the same,
Yeah exactly! So buy ones that come in a 'kit' that say "2 x 2gb" or "2 x 4gb" etc - these have been tested to work together by the manufacturer and will be more stable.

Swap the HDD for an SSD.. RAM is not your issue. Do you really think upgrading from 3 GB to 4 GB will solve the problem?
It's 2Gb of RAM in practice, and in two different memory sticks. This could well be causing system instability and freezing - 2gb is not enough and it's not a RAM kit. I would swap the RAM for at least a 4gb kit, regardless of any other upgrades.

I'm no memory expert but if the motherboard has 1+2GB of memory fitted, that's 3GB, not 2GB ?! But, don't want to frighten the OP away, change to SSD and sort memory too!Yes sorry, can't count to three! Agree that adding an SSD and sorting the memory would both be advisable and probably completely fix the PC.1

Buy what it suggests which is at least 4GB in total. Replace what you have with what they send and sell your old RAM on Ebay.Crucial may not be the cheapest but they have a no quibble compatibility guarantee and a lifetime warranty. They're the best option for a novice to use.

Thanks for all your replies guys, I will get new ram, if that does not improve then instead of getting an ssd, I will invest in a newer computer1

I think we had a similar thread recently. I have 2Gb of RAM and a small SSD. It runs perfectly and I never feel there is a need to change anything. I use Windows 10 32 bit though. That may be an option. It seems 2Gb on 32bit is OK but 2GB on 64 bit isn't.0

SSD first, it will be reusable on any new kit.
Just moving swap to SSD will be a significant improvement if you are memory bound.
