What kind of lock do I need for this door?

Hi there
We are buying our first house and the back door was shown on the survey to have been cut open with the metal bits taken out. I want to be able to secure the house ASAP when we move in but am clueless about diy. Could anyone tell me what sort of lock I need to be getting/finding out about from these photos?

Your photos aren't very helpful I'm afraid. If you're no good at DIY I think you will need a locksmith.1

You need a uPVC repair company to fit a new multipoint locking mechanism, lock and handle.
You may end up having to fit a new door.1 -
As above, unless you know exactly what type of multi-point lock hardware you need you'd be better off getting someone in to repair it.

Might be worth sending decent photographs to one of the spares places online.
They might recognise the type.
Or a local window place that carries spares.
Mine was fairly easy to replace, but that doesn't mean they all are.
The lock mechanism was one piece, on mine, but I had to cut it to length, and fit a different keeper plate to the frame.
The chap where I got the spares from was very helpful.
If you're not sure about it, I'd get somebody out to look at it.1 -
If time is of the essenace, then get a professional in.Otherwise, take out the existing lock and either take it to a locksmith/DIY superstore and get a matching replacement, or buy a replacement online.1

I would say that it all likelihood that with an outside door that can't currently be locked, any contents insurance policy will be invalid and even if there isn't a policy in place yet, having an unsecured door makes the place a very nice target for thieves or squatters.greatcrested said:If time is of the essenace, then get a professional in.1 -
And change all the other door locks as well. You have absolutely no idea how many copies of your front door key are out there....2

Something like this possibly but hard to tell from your pics1 -
Thanks, I think I will get someone in to look at it. I’d be up for having a go myself but will have limited time to get it sorted. I’ll save my diy curiosity for some of the other millions of jobs that need doing in the house lol!greatcrested said:If time is of the essenace, then get a professional in.Otherwise, take out the existing lock and either take it to a locksmith/DIY superstore and get a matching replacement, or buy a replacement online.
