How to report an shoddy builder?

Hello there,
Had some work done on the driveway, he did an okish job, but he's clearly cut corners in places and even built a fence about 50cm off from where it should be!! Anyway, I've also found out that he's not a registered company. Tried contacting him several times he's said he'd come twice but didnt. An independent trader quoted 1500 to correct his shoddy work. As he's not a registered company, can I take him to the small claim court, if not what are my options?

No one needs to be a registered company. Even if there is a registered company, it means a bit more in that someone understands admin somewhere. What's the difference between this 'independent trader' and the person you took on? Have you checked them out?The key is in doing your due diligence beforehand, I'm afraid. Check references! It cannot be purely about price because some people will work to a price and others work to a standard.Recommendations, always.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

You take him to court as a sole trader, assuming you have an address for service. But send an LBA first. No free lunch, and no free laptop
