Aldi Outdoor Clock Warranty

I purchased an Outdoor clock from Aldi approximately two years. On the reverse it has a 3 year warranty and the date 04/2018 which proves it is still within the warranty. The clock has now stopped working as ione of the hands in the sealed unit has come loose. Also insist I need the receipt which was included in other shopping and I have not retained it after this time. However I consider as this clock is only sold by Aldi and there is a warranty and date on the back I am entitled to a replacement, without this warranty on the clock I would understand the need for a receipt. . I have written to customer services but they have refused without the receipt. The sum is only small but it is a matter of principle. What are my rights.

If the terms of the warranty require a receipt and you don't have it, you have no rights under warranty.  Warranty terms are offered separately to your consumer rights, which you do have, but two years on, I suspect it's not worth pursuing.  You'd need to get the clock inspected and the report to suggest an inherent problem.  Even then, Aldi would only be obliged to offer a replacement, a repair or a refund (tempered to account for the two years' use you've had already).  You wouldn't need the receipt for that but you would need to provide some sort of proof of purchase (card statement, for example).

Warranties are offered at the discretion of the manufacturer, and therefore they can set what terms they like, as long as they don't diminish your consumer rights.

And on the plus side at least it still tells the correct time twice a day, so not all is lost

But without the receipt, there is no proof that the clock was sold by Aldi, only that it came from their stock.
For all they know, it might have been shoplifted or returned as faulty and taken by one of their employees. (I'm not implying that either of these happened, simply that they could have).

Does the warranty say we will give you a new clock ??

There's also no proof you bought the item, and if the warranty is non transferable then you don't actually have one.
Otherwise I could just go round buying broken stuff and getting it replaced for free... Hence you need proof of purchase (which your receipt will also say is required to enforce warranty).

It could have been stolen, faulty stock, etc etc - without a receipt they don't know otherwise.
Sorry, but if they stipulate you need this then you're out of luck.

Most of the outdoor Aldi clocks I've seen and similar clocks in other stores are not permanently sealed but have the back plate screwed to the bezel with the glass sandwiched between them. Removing the back plate and popping the loose hand back on the spindle (they are just a friction fit though some also have a small screw on retainer) would be a 10 min job if it wasn't sealed. Are you sure yours is sealed ie glued together?
