Travel Insurance edning - should I start a claim?

I had a booking for Orlando with Virgin Atlantic (VA) from 2nd July to 16th July purchased using a credit card. This was a flights only booking as I was due to stay with family. These flights have been cancelled, and I have asked for a full refund. VA state that the refund could take up to 120 days (ridiculous!). I don't know if I can do a chargeback on the credit card as VA has accepted the refund and are processing it.
I have Silver travel insurance with RAC. This ends on 5th July. I will not be renewing it - they have added a condition that states they will not cover anything related to a pandemic.
My questions are:
1. Should I start a claim now, as VA have not given my money back yet?
2. If I don't start a claim now, can I start it after the policy has ended as I was covered at the time of the first flight?
3. What happens if VA go bust?

What will you be claiming for?
You need to read your policy, look at what it covers and claim under one of the clauses.
They will want you to claim from VA first.
You also need to read the policy on period of travel. It is very likely that you need to be insured for the whole period you are out of the country.1
