Executor problem

The executor of the will of my Nan has not informed my mum that she is in the will. Someone else in the will has only received an 8th of what she is entitled to. He’s not informed my mum she is entitled to money- I’ve found out from someone else. We fear he’s hidden or spent a lot of all of the money. He has a number of vehicles he could sell to give the money he owes. However the problem is my Nan moved to Crete to live with him and therefore not sure where we stand as I’m guessing there is nothing we can do as he’s in a different country . I hate to think of him getting away with this. Thank you

If it's a UK will then it's subject to UK probate law.
If it's a Crete will then probably different rules.
This needs proper legal adviceEx forum ambassador

It’s a uk will as far as I know as the other executor was in England but unfortunately passed away.0

Problem is we could spend loads in legal advice and find he’s spent / hidden the money. We’ve known for years he was spending the money but he’s in Crete so easy for him to get away with. I’m guessing the police wouldn’t want to know.0

Do you actually know how much money there is likely to be ie what she actually had at time of death ? you say someone got an eighth of what they should, maybe that is an interim payment or maybe there is less than you thought.

No idea how much money. There was at least £300,000 At one point but we think he’s spent most of that or hidden it. He slowly spent it while she was alive we think and then didn’t even bother being open and honest with those in the will. She had at least £1000 a month to save so he had more than enough money to look after her without taking money from other areas. She sold her house in the uk and that was £300000.0

If money was spent when she was alive then unless you can show that this was done without your Nan's knowledge or consent, there isn't likely to be anything you can do. She was (assuming she had not lost capacity_ entitled to do what she wanted and that could have included making unwise or overly generous gifts to him.
If he failed to distribute the estate as it was when she died, in accordance with the will, then he would be liable, but the issue would be enforcing any orders against him if you were successful in taking him to court. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0
