Shell Energy offer variable direct debit. They've obviously set their T's & C's to support it. Much simpler than having two sets and having to swap people back and forth as they change tariffs/payment preferences.

"and we take the payment 10 days after your monthly bill is produced."

All seems fairly sensible: day 0 you provide meter readings, day 1 they produce a bill detailing the amount of the DD, you then have 6 days to raise any issues or even cancel the DD as a last resort, day 8 they submit the bulk payment files to the bank for processing, day 11 the payment is taken.

If they weren't able to vary the amount for 10 days before the payment then you wouldn't be able to dispute the bill at all. Am I missing something?
