Mother has opened accounts in my name

Hi there,
I recently discovered that my mum has opened a Next account using my name. My credit score is low due to this debt being recorded on there and is “in default”
Due to this debt not being mine how do I deal with this issue to correct my credit score? Can this be removed if she accepts liability?

I am in the process of looking for a mortgage but due to this credit score I believe I’ll be unable to achieve that.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Probably the simplest solution would be to speak to your mother and ask her to kindly pay off the debt and close the account that she fraudulently opened in your name. Once that is done, your credit history will record the fact, and lenders will look more favourably on you, though it may take a while. The alternative - which would involve you reporting the fraud to the police via Action Fraud - is likely to be more arduous, but that does depend on the nature of your relationship with your mother...1

Are you sure that she has only opened this one account?1

Your score is only seen by yourself, your history is whats important.nonny123 said:Hi there,

Id ask your mum to stop and to pay the debt off.0 -
Your options depend on if you are willing to have your mother prosecuted for fraud. If the answer is yes then it can be removed from your record, if not then it stays. You may want to ask for a protective CIFAS registration, that means that lenders will conduct additional checks before opening credit accounts, hopefully stopping your mother opening additional lines of credit.1

The only way to have anything your mother has done in your name removed from your credit record is to report the fraud to the police via the aforementioned Action Fraud line and then contact the companies and report the fraud to them. Personally I'd not even need to think twice about doing it if my mother did that to me because by doing it she's demonstrating how little she really cares about you.

There are absolutely no circumstances where this is remotely acceptable, especially when it is with a company like Next who don't sell a single thing you'd die without. No parent who cares about their kids would ever do this no matter what the temptation.sourcrates said:Be very careful when making sweeping statements like that.None of us are aware of the mothers circumstances.

You can't pretend that Next was an essential purchase or that someone did this by accident - it's quite a bit of work and time to apply for credit in someone else's name, and then she picked out her nice new outfits and spent your money, thinking about stealing your money for that whole time.
You asked whether it can be removed if she accepts liability which tells us that you were already prepared to make her face the legal and financial consequences. So, yes, I would also report it as fraud and get it removed. How dare your mother ruin your chance of buying a home and wreck your credit history for the next six years!1
