Mileage Discrepancy on MOT
hi all. New to the motoring forum but hoping you could help
buying a new (used) car and there’s a very obvious discrepancy with the mileage. Odometer says 27083 miles. Mot on 2nd April shows 27064 (fail). It was retested 3 days later and mileage has been entered as 218,783. I’m presuming it’s a mistake as I can’t imagine a doing that many lies in 4 days!
would the dealer be able to get the MOT corrected as it’s showing up in the HPI check as an issue?
Thanks in advance for your advice

The time to do it was within 28 days.

Over that time, it can be done, but only with DVSA and only with proof of mileage.
It's so egregious an error that it really won't make any difference in the grand scheme of things.0 -
It it's done 200,000+ miles, it'd be apparent!
Having said that, I worked at an oil testing lab; we had two high-end sports cars on a rolling road - sold with 250,000 miles on the clock yet had never actually moved! Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!0 -
Thanks for your replies. Will get in touch with the dealer and get them to rectify before making the purchase0

Be aware that when you come to sell it, HPI will flag a mileage discrepancy, and unless it is super rare or super cheap, most prospective buyers will just cross it off their list without wasting time trying to sort out if it is a typo on an old MOT. Dealers don't like it either when you come to trade it in for the same reason.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
(except air quality and Medical Science)

Thanks - been told that the dealer (current owner) can get DVSA to update the MOT system - so I'll get onto them tomorrow0
