Few things top the disappointment of taking a bunch of stellar photos, then getting home and finding out they are full of minor imperfections. With Luminar in your toolset, though, there is nothing to worry about.

Luminar is one of our favourite Mac photography apps. It combines a user-friendly interface with powerful tools that will suit any skill level, making it ideal whether you need a few minor tweaks or a complete overhaul. You can run it as a standalone app or as a plugin for Photos, Photoshop or Lightroom. It’s so good, in fact, that we gave it the prestigious Editor’s Choice award when we reviewed it in MF #351.

Perhaps Luminar’s best feature is its artificial intelligence (AI), which we praised as “scarily effective” in our review. Load up a photo and the AI identifies key areas that can be improved. The suggested changes can be applied automatically or manually, and you get masking tools that let you draw over objects you want removed from your snaps. It is especially good with portraits, identifying facial areas and smoothing out imperfections in a really natural way. You can even seamlessly replace your pictures’ skies with completely new alternatives.

The fact that the app manages to combine effective tools like these with a confusion-free interface is the icing on the cake. Whatever you need to adjust on your photos, Luminar is a superb choice.
