The foreign office was negotiating with insurers to extend cover where people were stranded. My insurer told me on the phone that my cover would be extended until I got home. He could complaint to his company and ask for an extension.1

I took out travel insurance on the 12th of December 2019 for my Holiday to Australia in August. I have since had my holiday cancelled by my travel agent due to covid19. The start date of my Holiday was the 02/08/2020 till 09/09/2020. I have contacted my insurance provider and told them what had happened and was hoping for a full refund because i won't be able to travel. Now what they told me that I was totally unaware of is { The contract I have purchased, whilst is a single product, it is in fact bought two policies combined into one offering.
A pre-travel policy (policy A): which starts on the date the premium is paid and ends on the date you leave home to start your trip.
The Travel Policy (policy
: starts only when you leave home on the first day of your trip and ends when you return to your home in the UK. } Policy A I was news to me because when purchasing my travel insurance I clearly stated that i wanted it to start on the 02/08 and finish 09/09. They have told me that I'm only entitled to a 50% refund. Are the within their rights to only offer me that. Not happy at all about policy A part. Thank you for any advice given.

It was what i had paid for my travel insurance is what I'm wanting a refund on. Sorry i missed that bit off.

What does your insurance documentation say? It sounds perfectly normal for insurance to be in place between booking and travel, to offer you protection against (for example) illness or bereavement preventing you from travelling, but did you sign up to a policy that specifically only covers issues arising when actually away?0

What's the issue with the product? It covered your requirements for the trip. Up to the date that your holiday was cancelled you've been insured accordingly.

Thank you both for your reply. I was not made aware of that cover policy A until i received the email from the travel insurance yesterday. It isn't on my travel document that I printed off only the date of my travel and my return so i did not know i was being covered it came as a surprise to me. I was only aware of the cover that i had taken out between the 2nd August and 9th September. Thanks again for your reply.0
