Paying off Egg bill before statement date

Don't do it if it's less than 5 working days before the payment due date as the b*st*rds will take the money from you anyway leaving your current account seriously overdrawn.
In my case they took £1500 out of my account even though I'd paid the £1500 4 working days early via my debit card.
The result of this is that I'm seriously (4 figures) overdrawn with my current account, accruing overdrawn charges at £8 per day and will be hit by interest charges until the account gets back into credit which, thanks to our wonderful banking system, won't happen for another week.

Any payment you make to your account in the period five working days before your payment date, and up to the date of your next statement, will reduce the balance of your statement, but will not affect your next direct debit payment.
harsh alan but it is in your terms.
the dd process has to be started prior to the date of collection to enable it to go through in time so thats why the 5 working day time period exists.
ie when you made the card payment they had already starting claiming the funds from your bank account.

Thats your own fault, if you left it soo late you should have just let it be collected by direct debit.0
