Cover against self isolation for UK travel

Hi all, me and my husband have an annual leave booked in a couple of weeks and now the rules have changed I am thinking it might be a good time to grab a family break. However, now test and trace is up and running I am concerned in case one of us was to get a call and have to self isolate and we would lose all our money (nearly 1k for some of the properties). I know booking.com is great as you can pay when you arrive/ get free cancellations but I am looking for cottages which they don't really cater for. Does anybody know of a cottage booking company that also let's you pay on arrival or would change or refund booking in these circumstances? Or UK insurance I can take out to cover this? Many thanks.

I don't think any self catering property will let you cancel two weeks in advance with no financial penalty.  Just because you pay on arrival does not mean you would not pay anything if you don't arrive.
  • I think if I was you Laura I would just wait until the time you want to travel, perhaps day before even - see what things are like then - then look at what is available.   That way you won't be risking anything except maybe getting into a particular cottage if you have one in mind?
  • Thanks Tedber, I might do that, goes against my love of planning but might be best option.

Booking last minute is your best option - taking cash on the door is a sure-fire way to have half of bookings not turn up so most won’t offer this.
